Reasons why I need a new camera

Because if you find yourself strolling through Central Park on a lovely sunny Sunday, and you happen upon an ice skating competition, naturally you will want to document it for all time.

And you look at the pretty balloons swaying to the music, of course you will feel compelled to zoom in.

But you can't.

Of course there will be times when you peer out of your kitchen window to find the moon glistening from above and clouds hastily painted across the sky.

But the camera on your phone fails to capture it's beauty.

Then there may come a time when you rationalize to yourself that it is ok to stop in the middle of the street before oncoming traffic to photograph the Empire State Building at dusk.

But was the outcome really worth laying down your life for?

Oh how I want a real camera!

  1. Oh I would love a real camera too. I miss my slr. I've been eyeing the Cannon Rebels. Have you decided which real camera you want?

  2. I hear ya! I get frustrated trying to capture pictures of gorgeous food (and action shots of my cat!) with my little point and shoot digital.

Oh well. I console myself with the thought that I wouldn't even know how to use a fancier camera. I'll just keep "get fancy camera and learn to use it" on my to-do list for now.

  3. I recently made the switch to a digital SLR, and I highly recommend it. Obviously there's an investment involved, but the joy of seeing your vision come to life is unparalleled. (And the auto settings will painlessly help any newbie through the learning process!)

  4. I've been putting my P&S through the wringer so I can justify getting a dSLR (or at the very least getting a significantly better P&S) because I know what I'm doing. But I completely hear you on wanting to take certain pictures--I wanted a shot of the sunrise over the East River from Harlem--125th St. and all of my pictures were woefully not zoomed in enough.

  5. That little girls' skating competition really was a priceless find on...yes! A destination-less walk through Central Park on a sunny Sunday. :-) I promise, Spring will make you love New York.

  6. I'm daydreaming about a new lens for my camera that would enable me to take the landscape photos that I really want to take. It would mean dropping about $500 (at the least, for the sake of quality).

Needless to say, I will continue to drool and stick with middle ground photography for now.
